Catch a Fire film review

1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?

I really liked this movie, it has a much more raw tone than others we saw, and like that it shows the struggle of the black population without even a reference to Nelson Mandela. I also aprecciate the way the film was constructed, taken directly from testimonies of Chamussso, and the fact that it was made by the daughter of Joe Slovo himself.

2. Who was the character you like the most and the character you liked the least in the film? Why?

I really liked Patrick Chamusso, his journey is really powerful , and i think better transmits the day to day life of a regular southafrican, trying to survive, to stay out of trouble, but clashing with the opressive sistem of apartheid in such a way that in the end taking action is the only right thing to do.

Sometimes Nic vos, was a bit anoyying and felt like adecision from the filmmakers to have a "villian" wich sometimes is not necessary

3. What was the role of Samora Machel, the FRELIMO, and revolutionary Mozambique in the struggle against the South African apartheid? Use examples from the film and the biography of Samora Machel

Thanks to the film, and with the perspective of Chamusso, we can see the common ways regular southafricans seeked freedom, one of this ways of taking part in the struggle, for many, was to join the revolutionary militias, who gave assylum and purpose to people who had to flee their country, who were persecuted, or that have suffered first hand, the horrors of apartheid.
